CUPPING & GUA SHA

CUPPING & GUA SHA

What is cupping?

Cupping is an ancient technique dating back to over 3000 years ago. It was not only used by the Chinese, but there is also evidence of it being popular in Europe and the Middle East.

Small glass cups are applied by creating a vacuum effect with a flame. The suction of the cups on the skin helps blood circulate to the area, thus, helping alleviate pain. It is great for musculoskeletal issues and muscle tightness and for relieving cold and flu symptoms.

What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha is another ancient technique used in Chinese medicine. Various tools can be used in this technique, like small plastic or jade paddles with rounded edges or even porcelain spoons! Long strokes are applied against the skin where there is pain or discomfort. Like cupping, Gua Sha can also be used for musculoskeletal issues and muscle tightness and for relieving cold and flu symptoms.
